They have introduced a new 30% tax on unrealised capital gains in eligible super funds. This family savings tax will impose an income tax on the increase in asset values, even if they haven't been sold. This means you’ll be taxed on potential gains that haven't been realised! The tax is due now, and if you can’t pay it, you may be forced to sell your assets. The threshold for the tax isn’t indexed, so more people will be affected each year.
